ASTM International has classified titanium in 38 degrees, depending on its purity and strength. Grade 1, 2, 3 and 4 titanium is pure titanium because it does NOT contain alloys. The difference between them is given by the presence of impurities, which, in a larger quantity, offer a higher hardness, and in a small quantity offer an increased malleability. Grades 5 to 38 contain different alloys (mostly aluminium and vanadium), in variable percentages.
